Planning your memorable wedding

He has asked for your hand in marriage and you have finally said, “Yes.” Wow, what a fantastic feeling as this is the start of your new life as a couple. After the celebrations have passed and all your family and friends have showered you with congratulations and before that long-awaited big day, both of you have many decisions to make and wedding-related tasks to complete in harmony.

Planning ahead what you need to do for your wedding day is the answer to stress-free preparation for your wedding day. How planning your wedding together should be just as fun, enjoyable, and just as memorable as your big day. Therefore, your starting point should be that you both prepare a wedding schedule and assign responsibility for each aspect of this schedule to each other – sharing is caring. What I am going to give you is a short list of tasks related to the wedding, as well as a rough estimate of when the activities should be done. I’ll present you with tips and guidelines to keep you organized and help you think through everything you need to consider in the course of planning your wonderful and memorable wedding day. These are merely suggestions that should help you get into the right mindset and get organized. I think it’s always better to have suggestions to work on rather than a blank sheet of paper, so my suggestions will help you both agree on the perfect schedule of activities that you both need to decide on, based on your priorities.

Let me start at the time of commitment: whatever you do, don’t forget to tell both parents first because if you forget to, you’re both off to a slow start. So you must tell your parents the happy news as soon as possible.

– A wedding planner is a great idea and not that expensive, especially when you consider that an experienced wedding planner can find everything you need for your wedding at the right price, potentially saving you a lot of money. The wedding planner is also great for helping you keep track of all the appointments, payments, and other wedding-related activities you need to attend to.

– No doubt they took your picture at the time of the engagement, well, that’s a great idea and a great memory. If they didn’t take it on the day, go to a professional photographer and have them take it and yes, while you’re there, consult the photographer for your own wedding day.

6 to 12 months before the big day

Step 1: Choose your wedding date. The first thing to do is decide what time of year you want to get married and choose your wedding date. Keep in mind that getting married in the summer can be more expensive when arranging venues etc. I would suggest that spring, early fall or Christmas are good times for a wedding and would certainly reduce the cost considerably.

Step 2: Book the church, registry office or wherever you decide to have the wedding ceremony. Once again, remember that a church wedding must be reserved three months in advance. The second thing to consider is where you are going to get married: chapel, church, registry office, hotel, backyard – the decision is yours. Now that you have your ceremony date and location planned, the next step is to decide where you want to have your wedding reception.

Step 3: Book the wedding reception. Take your time on this, especially in this climate, as most companies are clamoring for weddings, therefore that puts you in the driver’s seat, so shop around and see who can get you the best deals. Don’t be swayed by the cost, remember that it’s your wedding day and the venue is something you want everyone in attendance to enjoy and talk about for months to come. Wouldn’t it be nice to hear people say it was the best wedding venue I’ve ever been to, the food was excellent, etc. Consider your budget when deciding on the wedding venue?

Stage 4: Set your budget and stick to it. Now is the time to consider the size of the wedding you are planning and who you should have at the wedding and who you want to invite. My advice to you is to start your list with the people you want.

We are now going into the details of what you need to support your day, eg photographer, florists, musicians, caterer, etc.

Step 5: – Find a photographer – again there are many and choose one you like.

Step 6:- yes, a florist is also important and you should have a good relationship with him/her. Maybe even consider making your own bridal bouquet.

Step 7: Your music is extremely important as it sets the tone, mood, fun and enjoyment levels of your wedding so choose carefully, if you are going to have a DJ or band make sure you listen to them elsewhere in move on and only then decide if this is/are the musician(s) for you.

Step 8: Maybe you are going to host your own catering well then choosing a caterer is an important decision for both of you and again find out where they are catering and go and taste the food and get feedback from the guests at this caterer reception. The most important thing is that you get quotes for these services. If you’re booking your reception at a hotel where the food is provided, be sure to choose a tasting menu ahead of time before booking.

Step 8: To make sure you get the gifts you want, leave a gift list at your favorite department store.

Step 9: Have fun choosing the wedding dress just for you, this doesn’t have to be expensive as long as it looks fantastic on you to the point of turning heads when you walk down that aisle, through that garden or in that registry office. If you are planning to make your wedding dress, now is a good time to start this process. Once again, I must remind you to have a good relationship with the seamstress you choose and also make sure that she has a good reputation. Find out who they have already made dresses for and go see them. Remember that various accessories may be required for this.

Step 10: It’s time to consider what colors and style of dresses you want your bridesmaids to wear. The style should be complementary to your own wedding dress. Set a date by which these must be ordered.

4 to 6 months before the big day

Step 1. Now is the time for both of you to consider ordering your wedding invitations, stationery and thank you notes – this is one place where you could save money as you can make them yourself or have someone do it for you at half the cost of what they are to buy in stores.

Step 2. At this stage, you will have decided on your photographer, your florist, your musician, and your choice of food, whether it is completed by a caterer or part of the venue you have selected. Go over all the details with each of these services to make sure everything is as agreed. I would do this more than once.

Step 3. Grooms have life, they have two decisions to make when it comes to their attire: do I rent a tuxedo or buy a new suit? I think it’s best to get a tuxedo for the groom, groomsmen and parents of the bride and groom as there are great styles now and the wedding party looks so much better in photographs this way.

Stage 4. Now the fun is to organize the honeymoon, where to go, for how long, etc. once this is decided, go ahead and make those reservations. Remember that this will be the vacation of your dreams, so make it romantic.

Step 5. Now it’s time to confirm the delivery of the wedding dress and the bridesmaids’ dresses.

Step 6. What about the mother of the bride and groom? Ask them if they need help choosing their wedding attire. It is tradition that the mother of the bride wears the same color as the bridesmaids.

Stage 4. Check with the wedding venue that everything is as expected up to this point.

step 5. Go on a pleasure shopping trip to shop for the relevant gifts for your bridesmaids, groomsmen, and attendants. Don’t forget to buy yourself a gift for that day too.
