Common Fitness Problems and How to Overcome Them

Both people new to the world of fitness and veterans alike will experience some issues throughout their fitness journey. This is life. It is up to the individual to decide how he is going to react to these problems. He may try to ignore the problem, which usually leads to an undesirable result, or he may decide to do something about it, make whatever changes he needs to make, and probably grow from the experience. I’d like to take this time to outline some of the most common fitness issues I see people have and offer some solutions to help fix the problem.

The first, and probably the biggest problem I hear people have, is that they think nothing they’re doing is working. Whether they’re trying to lose weight or gain some muscle, many people will become discouraged after a short period of time because they don’t see the results they want. Then they’ll keep thinking that they’re a special case where they just can’t do whatever it is they’re working towards, and eventually they’ll give up.

The first suggestion I have to solve this problem is to drastically change that mindset. Everyone is capable of achieving their goals, you just have to know it. Know that seeing results takes a long time and that consistency is the name of the game. If you do your research, find a routine and control your diet, the results will be inevitable, you just have to stick to it. The second suggestion I have would be to track and keep track of everything you can to keep moving forward. This can be how many miles he walked on the treadmill, how many repetitions he did on a certain exercise, how many calories he thinks he has burned in a given day, how many calories he has eaten, etc. Once you start doing this, you’ll not only notice some changes you might need to make, but you’ll also be able to see the progress you’ve made. This has definitely helped keep me motivated to hit the gym.

Another roadblock people will run into is the idea that they don’t have time to exercise. This is nothing more than an excuse and a mental block so that you do not reach your goals and to justify not exercising. I fully admit, though I’m not proud of it, that I’ve used this excuse myself a couple of times over the years. The best way to stay dedicated is to fully include exercise in your schedule. Don’t make it something you’re trying to do, make it something you have to do, like go to work or make an appointment with the dentist. You probably wouldn’t cancel those things without a very good reason, right? Put fitness on the same level as those. If you can handle that, getting in shape every day will become second nature.
