History and facts of conversational hypnosis

How well do you know this word, “Hypnosis”? Well, believe it or not, when most of the people heard about this creepy word, they will think that it is a black magic or supernatural power, used to trick or hurt other innocent people (Maybe this is the influence depth of hypnosis related movies from the past, where most of the Hypnotists are villains…)

By recognition, hypnosis is one of the oldest traditional psychology therapy methods in the world. According to history, the royal family of ancient Egypt has used this method to treat stress-related illnesses. Those hypnotists have a very high reputation in ancient Egypt; because they claimed to have the superpower to heal people through hypnosis.

Hypnosis plays a very important role in the ancient Hindus, where there is a kind of “Temples of Dreams”. The main objective of the “Temples of Dreams” is to cure those diseases that the ancient doctors cannot cure. Besides that, archaeologists also discovered an ancient book called ‘Manu Law’ and this book is a holy book for ancient Hindus. This ancient ‘Law of Manu’ lists that there are three different levels of hypnosis, which are:

1. Situation of “sleep-wake”,

2. Situation of “dream-dream”, and

3. “Ecstasy-dream” situation.

Looking back at the history of hypnosis, the first Western scientists to become involved in hypnosis were Dr. Franz Anton Mesmer (1734-1815), an Austrian physician. He began to investigate an effect, which he called “mesmerism” (this word is still very popular to this day).

The word “Hypnotism” or “Hypnosis” was first introduced by James Braid (1795-1860), a Scottish surgeon working in Manchester City. James Braid made a theory, when a person keeps looking at a stationary or moving object for a period of time, the person will eventually go into the unconscious situation. Braid also stated that this type of process is not a “dream” process, but rather between the conscious and subconscious condition. This type of discovery has titled James Braid as “Father of modern hypnotism”.

Hypnosis has gained its recognition and popularity in this modern world. Some of the associations have approved hypnosis as one of the alternative treatments. Those associations are:

1. Endorsement of the British Medical Association, 1955

2. British Hypnotism Act of 1952

3. American Medical Association Endorsement, 1958

4. Endorsement of the American Psychological Association, 1960

Additionally, the American Society for Clinical Hypnosis (ASCH) website mentions that “Hypnosis is a spiritual state of internal absorption, subconscious concentration, and focused attention.”

Nowadays, hypnosis is widely used, either as an additional help for psychologists, or also as a qualified hypnotherapist to cure the patient. A large portion of these qualified hypnotherapists can easily earn up to five or six figures monthly income. Hypnotherapy has been widely used as alternative treatments for:

* Quitting smoking (have been found and reported to be really effective)

* Weight loss (same as quitting smoking)

* Dissociative disorders

* Phobias

* Changes of clothes

* Depression

* Childhood trauma

So what type of hypnosis is typically used in hypnotherapy? Well, most of the treatment cases showed that conversational hypnosis has proven to be the best method of hypnosis so far.

You must be wondering, what is “conversational hypnosis”?

“Conversational hypnosis” or also known as “sleight of hand”, is one of the methods of hypnosis used intentionally, where a series of selected words, questions, stories, body language, facial expressions and gestures are combined. This method has hardly been tracked by people, but it has a very successful rate of communicating with a person’s subconscious mind without realizing it.

The ultimate goal of this “Conversational Hypnosis” is for the person to reveal their internal problems, so that we really know how to help them overcome the problems…

Most people will say, “I’d like to learn hypnosis, but does it require any supernatural power or ESP to master it?” I can tell you the truth here, that I have been learning and mastering conversational hypnosis since I’m still in college (I remember I’m still a teenager right now) to help my other college friends cure their inner disease, most of them of the times it is about phobias.

OK, to be honest, it’s a bit frustrating for me, when I try to learn hypnosis for the first time. But after a few times of practicing, I am more confident in myself and can easily approach myself, even a stranger, and persuade him to agree with my opinion. The best thing about hypnosis is that I can use it to heal other people’s internal problems and help them come out of trauma in the long run.

Another good way of hypnosis, I have been able to cure my father and brother’s insomnia problem, where both of them have struggled for many years due to this insomnia problem.

Remember, “The person who can help you overcome the problem of inner disease is nobody but YOURSELF!”
