How to say "I miss you" in Spanish – Learning Spanish Vocabulary Words and Phrases

In this lesson on learning Spanish vocabulary words and phrases, I’ll cover how to say “I miss you” in Spanish and how to say “Perdí” like “I missed the train.” About a month ago, I received an email from a reader asking me how to say “I miss you” in Spanish. I thought this would be an interesting topic to cover in a Spanish lesson because there are so many different ways to say “I miss you” in Spanish.

First of all, I will tell you how to say that you miss someone or you miss something in Spanish. When we miss a person or thing, in Latin America we use the verb “to miss”.

I miss a lot.
I miss you a lot.

You miss your friends.
You miss your friends.

The strange groom has met the bride.
The groom misses his bride.

In Latin America we also use the verb “faltarle” to say that you miss someone.

I really miss it.
I miss you a lot.

However, in Spain, they use a different phrase:

I miss you.
I miss you.

Spanish uses the verb “perder” to talk about missing a bus, taxi, train, plane, etc.

They are going to miss the subway.
They are going to miss the train.

They have already lost it.
They have already lost it (the subway).

The important thing to remember is that when talking about lamenting the absence of someone, you should use the verb “to miss” or “to miss” if you are speaking Latin American Spanish. And when you speak European Spanish, you should use the verb or phrase “echar de menos” if you want to say that you long for or long for someone.
