Introduction to Photography Assignments

The best way to start learning photography is to just do it. As they say, practice makes perfect. Practice also makes you think of new things to shoot, as well as fun questions and ideas for new photos. In this Introduction to Photography Assignments, you will find several ideas to keep in mind when going out with your camera. Doing one or more of the following photography assignments will help you on your way to becoming a skilled photographer. These assignments are designed to inspire you and help you improve as a photographer. Whether you reach that “master photographer” status, you will have a lot of fun in the process.

Before your introduction to photography assignments

One thing … before you rush out the door with the camera to your head, try to think of all the photos you would like to take. This way of thinking about the future really helps.

So your first task is to write a list of the kinds of photos you would like to take … Imagining a photo makes photography more fun and increases the chances of great photos.

Take at least 30 photos of your favorite subject, whether it’s you:

* dog,

* cat,

* friend,

* group of friends (use the self-timer)

* neighbour,

* dad,

* brother or sister,

* relative,

* toys,

* or favorite dolls.

A fun twist would be to make a scene with your toys or dolls and photograph this scene from a low point of view.

Regardless of the subject you choose, do your best to point the camera to get everything you want in the picture. At the same time, try to make sure that there is nothing in the image that you don’t want or don’t care about. The goal is to get images with only the subject and not with a lot of extras. A great trick to doing this is to get as close to the subject as possible.

Photography tasks: write down your experiences

Here are some ideas:

* Create a “Summer Memories” photo essay. Instead of just writing a “What I Did Over the Summer” topic or essay, why not illustrate it with pictures?

* Gather a photographic history of your camping experience or a recent vacation.

* Take photos that capture recent adventures at home.

* Make a “Memory Box” – Collect your favorite images in one place.

* Add words to your favorite images in a scrapbook. Write down the names of your friends, the names of the places you go and the things you see, as well as anything else you can think of.

* Keep this journal or picture journal close by, such as by your bedside, in your backpack, or on your desk. You want it to be easy to find when you have a thought that you want to write down.

So, what are you waiting for? Choose the task that seems the most fun to you, grab your camera and take some photos. Have fun!
