Karaka Lakes: a new development and a new lifestyle

Karaka Lakes is part of a recent development 30 minute drive south of central Auckland. This elegant subdivision provides its residents with an alternative lifestyle to the hustle and bustle of the city, with a relaxed lifestyle in a picturesque setting. Over the past 12 months, the area has seen some major development, with new areas of the subdivision opening, new roads to the harbor opening, and the opening of the local school. Read more in this article about this new development and why residents love their lifestyle here.

The Karaka Lakes area is part of a new development south of Auckland. The first development was the successful Karaka Harborside subdivision, which quickly attracted the interest of many people looking for a new home outside of the city center. The development of Karaka Lakes followed closely, with the same park-style design and luxury modern homes under construction.

Karaka’s attractions are many. First, due to its location close to the Auckland Expressway and Papakura Train Station, it was an easy commute for workers commuting to the city center or to the southern and eastern suburbs. Second, the price for a house and land package is reasonable compared to the exorbitant prices being asked in the nearest suburbs. Third, there are two new schools located nearby, one within walking distance, both zoned for the Karaka area and both ranked in the high decile. Last but not least, the subdivisions in Karaka are incredibly well thought out, with harbor views, park-like lakes, wide trails, playgrounds, and covenants to ensure only quality construction takes place in the area.

It’s not just the luxury homes in the area that attract people, but the new lifestyle people find by moving there. Talking to the residents of Karaka Lakes, we found that there was a strong sense of community in the area, probably due to like-minded people being drawn to the neighborhood. Residents spoke of year-round street dining, and even Christmas decorating contests that on one street featured a homemade sleigh being used to haul children.

The feeling of space, well-lit streets, and sense of community is what residents say makes the area feel very safe. Some even commented that they were happy to run at night or in the early morning when it was dark because they felt safe in the new subdivision. There are also new walkways along the entire length of the beach on the port side, which are even wide enough for baby strollers.

For those who want to explore a bit further afield, Clevedon markets are a great place to visit on Sundays, Clarkes Beach is a lovely spot for a swim or picnic with the family, and the Botanic Gardens are just a short drive away. For sports facilities there is the Massey Park Aquatic Center in Papakura, which has an Olympic-class swimming pool and a children’s wave pool. Also, for the motor enthusiast, there is Pukekohe Park Race Track just a 15 minute drive away and of course Hampton Downs is just down the road. Plus, there are shopping malls, restaurants, cafes, and theaters all within a short and easy drive, or you can take the train into town on the weekend.

As you can see, there are a myriad of reasons why Karaka has attracted so many new residents. If you want to live in Auckland or want to improve your lifestyle, you should come and see for yourself.
