The Parable of the Divided Kingdom Simplified – Matthew 12:24-30

In Matthew 12:24-30, the Pharisees accused Jesus of casting out demons by the power of Satan/Beelzebub and Jesus goes on to explain this. See how this parable comes to life with a simple teaching.

This is called the parable of the Divided Kingdom. This stems from something that Jesus did. Jesus was always doing Kingdom things and bothering certain people and we caught that in Matthew 12:24-30. He says:

“Then they brought him one who was demon-possessed, blind and dumb”;

So this means he had demons in him that made him react. He was blind and could not speak. The scripture goes on to say:

“and he healed him, so that the blind and the dumb spoke and saw. And all the crowds were astonished and said, Could this be the Son of David?”

Which is a way of saying, “Could this be the Messiah?”

“When the Pharisees heard it, they said: This man does not cast out demons but by Beelzebub, the ruler of the demons.”

But Jesus knew their thoughts and said to them, “Every kingdom divided against itself is laid waste, and every city or house divided against itself will not stand. If Satan casts out Satan, he is divided against himself. How then If I cast out demons by Beelzebub, by whom will your sons cast them out? Therefore they will be your judges. But if I cast out demons by the Spirit of God, surely the Kingdom of God has come to you. Or how can anyone enter a strong man’s house and plunder his goods, unless he first binds the strong man? And then he will plunder his house. He who is not with me is against me, and he who does not gather with me scatters. .”

Now, it’s interesting. Overseas, witch doctors have the power to heal. Witch doctors can heal people from demonic oppression. It seems that the Hindu religion and the different religions have certain spiritual people who can do certain spiritual things. It seems that Satan can do these things in his own Kingdom. But what happens is that it seems to bind people even more. Through the power of the witch doctor, everyone gives more power to the demons and more power to the witch doctor. Satan wins in the end because everyone worships the gods and everyone worships the witch doctor and Satan remains in control.

Jesus said, “Every kingdom divided against one another is laid waste, and every city or house divided against itself will not stand.” You only need, and I say this in love, but you only need a lover who doesn’t love you to break up a marriage. Every house that is divided will not stand.

I heard a story about a man who kept getting sick and kept going to the hospital because he couldn’t eat. They would put him on a drip and after two months in intensive care, he would be back out. Once again, he got sick and couldn’t eat. He would go to the hospital. He had been to the hospital about five times. He then he called this preacher named Andrew Wommack at his house and said, “Can you help me?”

Andrew saw someone come out of the house when he got there, a woman. And the boy described her condition. Andrew says, “I don’t know of any reason.” The Holy Spirit had told this man to invite Andrew and he will find out the reason for his illness. He told Andrew about the illness. And Andrew said, “Well, the Holy Spirit could have told you, but I don’t know why. Let’s pray”.

Andrew began to pray for the boy. He was about two sentences into the prayer and the Holy Spirit told Andrew, “The problem is his mother-in-law. His mother-in-law is always cursing him.”

And Andrés finished the sentence, he says: “Who was that who was leaving? Was it your mother-in-law?”

And he said, “Yes.”

He said, “Does she treat you well?”

He said, “Oh, she’s always here, saying I’m no good for her family and I’m no good and always cursing at me. So I can’t work and I’ll always be sick.”

He said, “She says all these things and what else does she say?”

Andrew heard the mother speak curses of sickness over the man.

Andrew said, “You have to get rid of that mother-in-law. You can’t be okay and let her into your house. You’ll still be sick. She’s the problem.”

So the man did that and was healed and stayed that way.

Now what am I saying? I will not press charges against the mothers-in-law. I’m just saying that a house divided against itself cannot stand. The wife has to choose her mother or her husband.

Jesus said, the Scripture said in the Old Testament, Genesis, “Therefore a man shall leave his mother and father and be united to his wife, and the two shall be one.” Many problems in marriages occur because the man or woman has not left their parents. The in-laws are always minding their business and giving advice. Mothers and fathers must take their hands off and let the boy grow into a man and get on with his own life.

So Jesus was using that illustration saying that Satan cannot be operating his Kingdom in this way. He was saying something like, “I can’t be healing people and casting out demons with the power of Satan. I mean, everywhere I go, I cast out all the demons. Satan would be losing the battle because I keep destroying his kingdom.”

He went on to say that there were exorcists who existed among the Jews. Jesus said to them: For whom do your children cast them out, therefore they shall be your judges? The people who cast out demons in Jewish life will be the judges of the Pharisees to see which side the Pharisees were on. They could judge why the demons were coming out of them and those people would be able to recognize that Jesus Christ was casting them out by the Spirit of God.

Jesus went on to say that, “If I cast you out by the spirit of God, then surely the Kingdom of God has come to you.”

So the Pharisees were commanded to be judged by people who cast out demons on their own faith or to accept that Jesus cast them out by the Spirit of God.

Now Jesus goes on to say that bind strong men and you will be able to plunder their goods. He then goes on to say: “He who is not with me is against me, and he who does not gather with me scatters.”

Jesus was saying in effect, “If you’re not for me, guys, you’re against me. You can’t sit on the fence. You can’t sit on the fence on this issue or any other issue. You have to accept that I am the Son of God. You have to accept that I am the son of David, as they say I am. You have to look at the signs and wonders that I am doing and saying. For yourself certainly this man has the power of God. Certainly this man has authority. This man is making the blind see, making the deaf speak, casting out demons. He is performing miraculous signs, the signs of a prophet. And this prophet claims to be the Son of God.”

This is what this parable is talking about. Is Jesus the Son of God for you? Is Jesus the Son of David? Was he born of David? Was he descended from David, the King of Israel as the Messiah was to descend? Was Jesus really the Messiah? Is Jesus the Messiah?

See, then, what is the practical application? It means that if you are dumb, if you cannot speak the gospel, you are dumb, if you are blind, if you do not understand the gospel and are blind to the gospel, if you are demon possessed or possessed by a demon or affected by incorrect theology or wrong voices speaking to you, all of these things can be resolved through Jesus Christ. Blindness, spiritual blindness, can be corrected by being led by Jesus into the truth. Mutism, the ability not to witness to your friends, not to share the Gospel with your friends, that can be corrected with a proper relationship with Jesus, a proper teaching of Jesus can give you confidence. Joy, love, life can be possessed by you that will give you confidence and give you a testimony so that you can use it to testify.

Many people do not testify in this world because they have nothing to testify about. Many people in this world do not share your beliefs. They do not share their faith with other people because they themselves are sad and depressed.

There is no more than 50% of Christians who live in health, vitality and prosperity and live a life in which they feel fulfilled and loved.
