Why keeping secrets prevents you from prospering in life?
Our potential to thrive in life is hampered by our hidden feelings, attitudes, and ideas. Our secrets overwhelm us. Keeping secrets is the same as staying stuck. Anything hidden has power over us because we fear it might be found out.
What secrets do you hide?
The choice to keep our inner selves protected and secret from others is ours. Risking vulnerability by sharing who we are requires strength and a lot of courage. With the exception of God, we can never be sure that those we open up to will not betray us. However, we can be sure that the things we keep hidden will haunt us. Our secrets kept in the dark prevent our personal growth and prosperity.
You can be free from the power of darkness. 1 John 1:5 says that God is light and in Him there is no darkness. The reward of total honesty and bringing secrets to light is greater intimacy with God, with ourselves, and with others. Truth and honesty make possible a level of friendship that removes self-doubt and turns all situations into opportunities for greater happiness.
You may be tempted to keep some secrets today.
I encourage you to let God’s light shine on your ulterior motives and dark places. (He already knows them anyway.) Sharing and being honest with those we are close to will relieve us of the burdens that only weigh us down and keep us from thriving in life.
1 John 1:6 says that if we say we have fellowship with God, but walk in darkness, we lie and do not practice the truth. Then he goes on to say in verse seven, that if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanses us from all sin.
The fact of the matter is: Whether you look at this spiritually or naturally, when we deceive ourselves and keep things secret, we hinder our spiritual relationship with God and our natural relationships with people from thriving. Letting others get to know us really creates greater opportunities for growth and happiness. Only when we open up and tell the truth do people trust us. Honesty is a quality that will ensure increasing prosperity in our relationships and in our lives.
